Writing Unit- Research Report

We are currently working on report writing. So far, students have brainstormed a list of topics they wanted to research. They then picked 1 topic for their research and have been working on determining 3 main ideas/focus areas within that topic.

We will begin researching our topics next week. Students have a graphic organizer to help them organize all of the information they find.

The final report will include an introduction, 3 body paragraphs, and a conclusion.

How to Help at Home:

-Ask your child what topics they had originally brainstormed to research.

-Ask your child what final topic they chose to research and what the 3 mainĀ  ideas/focus areas are for their paper.

Math Unit: Geometry

Students have been working on a unit in geometry.

Throughout this unit we have/will be working on:

Grade 5

-identifying and naming regular and irregular 2-D polygons.

-Using a protractor to measure and construct angles from 1 degree to 90 degrees and classify them as acute, obtuse, straight or right angled.

-Constructing triangles using rulers and protractors when given their angles and side measurements.

-Looking at lines of symmetry, parallel sides, perpendicular lines, congruency, and similarity in polygons.

-Identifying and constructing prisms and pyramids

Grade 6

-identifying and naming regular and irregular 2-D polygons.

-Using a protractor to measure and construct angles from 1 degree to 180 degrees and classify them as acute, obtuse, straight or right angled.

-Constructing triangles and parallelograms using rulers and protractors when given their angles and side measurements.

-Looking at lines of symmetry, order of rotational symmetry, parallel sides, perpendicular lines, congruency, and similarity in polygons.

-Building and sketching 3-d models using connecting cubes
